Once the Income Tax Bill 2025 becomes law, IT officials will gain extensive powers to access personal digital data (emails, social media, travel itineraries, spending) and device passcodes of individuals suspected of tax evasion or under-reporting income.
"IT officials will basically have a legal right to access your emails, your social media accounts, your travel itinerary, your spending uh expenses as well. Everything can be accessed by IT officials as part of their right to search and seize. If they believe that you're evading taxes or under reportporting your income, IT officials can now invoke these special powers which will make the IT department extremely powerful."
